Visualisation Wooden frame
In March 2020 after a long break, I started a new series of paper furniture. It is just a simple cube to sit on and play with.
The production makes no noise and goes very slowly. Each strip of paper is applied individually. To make the cube stable you need many layers of paper. Because the Normal wallpaper paste is applied wet, it takes a long time to dry. This gives the necessary tension and makes the layers of paper strong.
The form had been in my thoughts long before the crisis. But now I had the opportunity to make it happen.
This boxstool is exactly the size of an instrument called cajón.
A cajón (Spanish: “box”, “crate” or “drawer”) is a box-shaped percussion instrument originally from Peru, played by slapping the front or rear faces with the hands, fingers, or sometimes implements such as brushes, mallets, or sticks. This instrument is usually made of thin plywood.
I wanted to test how stretched paper sounds and so I started building paper furniture again.
And it actually works! The stool is now also a drum and is quite loud.
