change.to/comfort

History: The first presentation at the Salone Satelite 2000. The concept was to combine a piece of furniture made of purchased parts and self-designed parts. The title of the exhibition already refers to the new possibilities the internet could offer.

Design with Components.

The project change.to/comfort is a reaction to the work of contemporary art. The attempt to bring back an uncomplicated relationship between design and furniture. It is not a design style but a combination of designs.

change.to/comfort consists of:

1. the furniture: wardrobe art. oo1G, table art. oo2T and armchair art. oo3S;

2. the photograph as a furniture portrait;

3. the Home Page www.change.to/comfort.

change.to/comfort is the result of observations in daily life. The pieces of furniture have been enhanced with easily purchasable objects. Thus, for example, the wardrobe is equipped with a tie rack which can be bought in any supermarket. The industrial products used are not removed from their original purpose but instead are placed in their original function. The originality lies purely in the combination of the various objects. To a certain extent it is the displacement of technical solutions to other products. A reflection of the economy. A reduction to the essential, with gentle irony.

The name change.to/comfort represents the basic idea of using and exploiting free services. Here, the combination consists of the name change.to, which is offered free of charge by the company V3 on the internet. This service makes it possible to use a simple name in order to link to a Home Page with an overlong address. Only the word comfort has been designed.

Portraits: The pictures of furniture represent the extension of the portrait series which was first shown in Milan in 1994 with Portraits of Chairs on Canvas.
