Zurich Design Weeks 2026 | Atelier’s Robert Wettstein
For years, Robert Wettstein has been working with simple, inexpensive materials that are easy to work with by hand. This year, he continues his work with Styrofoam, which he began as part of Craft ID during Design Week 2024.
The motto “Plenty” stands for abundance. This is precisely what the material he uses represents, as it is available in large quantities. Wettstein obtains it from neighbors and friends or finds it on the street. Styrofoam can be shaped precisely and in a variety of ways using a hot wire.
Two new armchairs have been created from these found materials. They are radical seating pieces that stand in the room like 1:1-scale design models while also offering surprising comfort. They combine sculptural presence with functionality and showcase those seated in a flattering light.
