Craft-ID at Zurich Design Weeks

Robert is part of the ‘Craft-id’ association. During the Zurich Design Weeks 2024, the group will be showing new handcrafted design objects.

The group is formed by Natascha Madeiski, René Odermatt and Robert Wettstein.

Material samples. Trial and error. The sample wall shown here is the thought track to the results presented in the exhibition. The experiments make it possible to try out reactions and color gradients on a small scale. The question of whether a color should be painted first or mixed with the epoxy resin and then applied can be clarified here. Which paper shimmers how with which color on the substrate? The sample palette is intended as a decision-making aid and taste test. These objects also serve to refine the craft in order to obtain your own CRAFT ID.

Watertight vases.
As part of Craft-ID, Robert presents objects that are not made of glass or ceramics. The vases on display are made of polystyrene and made by hand. The task of recreating the blue dot vase in Max Bohren’s sunflower picture (undated ca. 1940/50) led him to design further shapes and vases of his own.The spontaneity and joy of design is reflected in these new objects. The title removes a certain mistrust of the vases. It poses the question: real or fake, right or wrong? Tight or leaky. It questions things that are taken for granted.
