Rediscovered Sid Chair

Robert Wettstein began designing furniture made of structural steel in the 1980s. The idea arose from his fascination with the material and its properties. Structural steel, also known as reinforcing steel, is robust and versatile, making it an ideal material for innovative pieces of furniture.

Wettstein initially experimented in his parents’ house in Volketswil, where he designed and photographed the first pieces of furniture made from structural steel.
The Sid chair pictured was long forgotten in the cellar until it was recently refurbished and shown in the studio. In the background is a Hans Wegner armchair a Tripoidlamp, out of the Tribute collection Warhol’s flowers 1965 and the Bow side chair by Robert.
